Join Utah Valley University as a Communications Specialist II and play a pivotal role in supporting student success through clear, strategic, and engaging communication. In this position, you will lead marketing, events, outreach, web content, and communication efforts for the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office, helping students and families navigate essential processes such as the FAFSA and scholarship applications. Your work will directly contribute to stronger financial literacy across campus, ensuring that students receive the information they need to make informed decisions about their education.
Collaborating with the Senior Director, campus partners, and university leadership, you'll help shape initiatives that align with UVU's mission and elevate student engagement. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact, build cross-departmental relationships, and guide communication strategies that empower students throughout their academic journey.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic communication plans to effectively convey information related to financial aid and scholarship opportunities to students, prospective students, and parents. Collaborate with the financial aid team to identify communication objectives and target audiences, utilizing SQL to gather information about the student population. Utilize data analytics tools to track the effectiveness of communication strategies and campaigns. Generate regular reports utilizing SQL, Excel, and Power BI to create insights and assess student engagement, identify areas for improvement, and inform decision-making.
- Create engaging and informative content for various communication channels, including email newsletters, social media platforms, websites, chatbots, digital signage, video, and printed materials. Ensure that all communication materials adhere to the institution's branding guidelines and accurately reflect its mission and values. Manage content calendars and schedules to maintain a consistent flow of information throughout the academic year.
- Organize and manage outreach activities, workshops, and information sessions to inform students about resources and application processes. Collaborate with internal departments, including Admissions, the Student Success Center, and academic advising, to align messaging and initiatives that support student success. Serve as the main contact for scheduling outreach events.
- Conduct surveys to evaluate student experiences and measure employee satisfaction. Design and implement campus scholarship training programs using Auzmor Learn. Employ Microsoft Power Automate to streamline workflows for tasks such as financial aid access, appointment notifications, data requests, and more.
- Develop and maintain the Financial Aid and Scholarships website utilizing the Modern Campus CMS system and HTML. Conduct regular audits to ensure content is accurate. Maintain the SharePoint site for the office. Conduct other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a Bachelor's degree, plus one year of marketing/design experience, OR a combination of relevant education and experience totaling five years.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations and policies is desirable.
- Knowledge of computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, PowerPoint, internet tools, email systems, and other general computer skills.
- Experience working in higher education, particularly in financial aid, student affairs, or related areas.
- Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms, including email marketing software, social media management tools, and content management systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for various audiences.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for students from all backgrounds.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems in an effective and professional manner.
- Shows initiative and has the ability to effectively prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
