DESCRIPTION
Mendocino College seeks a dynamic and outgoing full-time tenure track Child Development instructor who shares the college's commitment to student success and equity-minded practices.

ASSIGNMENT
This is a full-time, 175 days, tenure track position with a 10 month contract (August-May). The annual teaching load is 510 lecture hours, 680 lab hours, or a combination of the two. The annual work year includes one hundred and sixty four (164) instructional days and eleven (11) professional development/flex days. This assignment may include day, evening, and weekend classes, as well as travel to, and instruction at, off-campus centers within the District.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Compensation is dependent on education and experience.
Annual salary offered at $76,131 - $106,206. Step seven (7) is the maximum step placement based on year for year teaching experience or two years of FTE work experience in the field per step.

Benefits: We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes family medical, dental, vision, EAP benefits and employee life insurance with no monthly premium contribution from the faculty member,. Additional voluntary life insurance is available for employee purchase. Benefits are effective the first of the month following hire date.
Paid Time Off: The successful candidate will earn ten (10) days of sick leave per year.
Retirement: This position is eligible for CalSTRS Retirement. Additional, voluntary 403{b) programs are available.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
The successful candidate will support success by providing instructional support and institutional collaboration. This includes the following duties and/or assignments:
TEACHING:
- Instructs a wide range of Child Development courses in the classroom, online and practicum settings; participates in program and curriculum development and revision.
- Provides instruction in accordance with the course outline and schedule of classes; prepares a syllabus for each class to inform students about the course objectives, grading plan, assignments, and attendance requirements; develops, maintains, and assesses student learning outcomes; evaluates students' performance; provides students with timely feedback; submits grades and attendance reports.
- Posts and maintains daily office hours; develops and maintains current curriculum materials and course outlines; recommends course scheduling; selects textbooks and instructional materials; recommends library selections; conducts faculty evaluations; mentors adjunct faculty.
- Participates in budget development and maintenance, equipment storage and inventory, student advising, faculty meetings, committee assignments, professional development, flex activities, program review, and processes of the Academic Senate.
- Provides leadership for the Child Development instructional program; recruit for and coordinate meetings with an advisory committee; coordinates with the center director to ensure that Child Development students receive a complete learning experience at the center; may participate in Child Develop Center staff meetings and contribute expertise to discussions about center operations.
- Serves as a liaison with local schools and the community; participates on various committees; coordinates class offerings with various community agencies such as First Five, North Coast Opportunities (NCO), and County Offices of Education. Maintain opportunities for students with a variety of educational and career goals.
- Monitors and manages budget and other requirements of the Child Development Training Consortium and California ECE Mentor Grants.
- Attends/leads Child Development department meetings;
- In collaboration with the Dean, develops the CDV class schedule;
- Supports and collaborates with full time and part time CDV faculty;
- Participates in ongoing professional development and seeks funding to attend conferences;
- Stays current with CDV student materials, including free online resources, and communicates with CDV publishers;
- Participates in program and curriculum development, review, and revision;
- Develops and assesses student learning outcomes in the discipline;
- Participates in full-time and part-time faculty evaluations.
INSTITUTIONAL:
- Attends in-service days, commencements, and faculty meetings as scheduled;
- Completes required flex hours for professional development purposes;
- Serves on college committees;
- May supervise student workers in the discipline;
- Participates in the development of an annual budget for the discipline;
- Submits purchase orders and maintains related records;
- Participates in the completion of program review;
- Participates in the processes of shared governance;
- Secures and properly stores equipment assigned to the discipline;
- Conducts a periodic inventory of equipment;
- Participates in activities to create and promote career pathways, with special focus on noncredit student pathways.
Office and classroom settings. This assignment may include day, evening, and weekend classes, online instruction, as well as travel to, and instruction at, off-campus centers. Physical demands include sitting, standing, bending, walking, and occasional light lifting (up to 15 lbs).
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including by not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB test.
Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, geographic and ethnic backgrounds of students, staff, and faculty.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/ family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education
OR Bachelor's in any of the above
AND Master's in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/ home economics, family life studies or family and consumer studies
OR the equivalent
