Position Description
This paraprofessional position holds responsibilities that may involve supervision of a work unit and/or the undertaking of specialized work requiring a high level of expertise, such as cataloging or processing of manuscript collections. Independent judgment and a comprehensive knowledge of tasks are used to accomplish the mission of the unit. Work is performed under general supervision within established policies with latitude for independent judgment. Evaluation is based upon a review of completed work and overall results obtained.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Monitors and processes book drops, in-house use items, withdrawn books, and in-transit items; perform secondary items searches within the physical collection.
  • Performs Stacks maintenance and supervises shelf reading, shifting, space estimation projects, and other projects as they occur.
  • Responsible for maintaining, processing, and transporting Lost & Found inventory.
  • Oversees and monitors community service workers.
  • Manages day-to-day activities of student assistants. Schedules and tracks student assistant project shifts.
  • Adjusts student assistant schedules to ensure service point coverage is met.
  • Assists Section Supervisor in training approximately 40 student assistants.
  • Provides feedback about student assistant performance to Section Supervisor - Access Services.
  • Assists Section Supervisor - Access Services in designing and leading regular student assistant meetings to discuss new procedures and old issues.
  • Serves as a resource for information about Libraries spaces.
  • Ensures that all student assistants maintain compliance with Access Services, Library, and University policies.
  • Contributes to annual evaluations of student assistant performance.
  • Works at service desk; serves as an escalation point for Primary Desk Staff for customer service questions.
  • Participates in writing and updating Access Services procedures and documentation.
  • Submits End of Day Reports to Section Supervisor - Access Services


Required Qualifications
Bachelors' degree in related field and one year related experience; knowledge and competencies of Microsoft Office. Relevant specialized work experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis. Additional job related education may substitute for required experience on a year for year basis. Ability to learn and work with computer applications unique to libraries or archives.
