Instructor, Administration of Justice (Criminal Justice)


Position Description

This is a full-time, tenure-track instructor position in the School of Business and Applied Technology. Under the direction of the Dean, the assignment for the full-service week will be to teach any and all administration of justice/correctional science/criminal justice courses offered by the department, and to participate in any other professional responsibilities as identified under 18.2.3 of the faculty agreement. Although this assignment is initially at the Rancho Campus, transfers to the Fontana or Chino campuses may be possible per contract and need.

Responsibilities

This assignment includes (but is not limited to) the following:
  • Teach assigned day and/or evening courses offered in correctional science on-campus or at an off-campus site.
  • Teach in a manner consistent with the department's standards and with the contents cited in the approved course outlines.
  • Remain current in the subject matter areas and in the techniques of effective instruction.
  • Participate in course and curriculum design and development, in student advisement, in program review, and in district/college/school committees as required to maintain and improve the instructional program.
  • Participate in department and school meetings.
  • Perform other assigned tasks for the benefit of the college, the community, and the profession.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Any Bachelor's degree or higher PLUS two (2) years of related experience; OR
  • Any Associate's degree PLUS six (6) years of related experience; OR
  • The equivalent (A completed District equivalency form must be submitted at the time of application); AND
  • Clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
    Preference will be given to those candidates who establish the highest level of professional competency as evidenced by any or all of the following:
  • Community college teaching experience at multiple skill levels.
  • Master's degree in criminal justice, criminology, public administration, or any of the social sciences.
  • Expertise with the student populations included in the Chaffey College Equity Plan.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in speech and in writing.
  • Commitment to the discipline through involvement in professional organizations and activities.
  • Experience in collaborative and cooperative teaching/learning methodologies

    Additional Information

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
    Based upon the minimum and/or desirable qualifications stated in this position announcement, the initial salary placement range is $65,700 (minimum qualifications) to $93,700 (doctorate) (Fall 2019 salary schedule). Placement is based on the regular full-time faculty salary schedule and is dependent upon verification of relevant experience and coursework from a regional or nationally accredited institution of higher learning.

    The Selection Process
    A screening committee will conduct all minimum qualification appraisals as set forth on the announcement and reserves the right to limit the number of interviews granted.
