Position Description
Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions

Mixes and matches paint, varnish, lacquer, shellac or other finishes. Refinishes and restores interior and exterior painted surfaces including modifications or alterations to buildings. Refinishes furniture, cabinets, shelves, table tops and other furnishings.
Performs painting tasks to include: preparation of various types of surfaces by scraping, sanding and cleaning and applying paint, varnish, lacquer, shellac or other finishes.
Maintains vehicle, tools, equipment and materials in an orderly and safe condition. Operates vehicles including pickups, trucks and vans. Secures vehicle, equipment and areas of operation.
Maintains records of materials and labor expended for each project or job assignment. Assesses job or project material requirements and prepares requistion for materials from supply warehouse or vendor.

Required Qualifications
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed journeyperson.

Preferred Qualifications

Three years' experience as a journeyman painter.
Working knowledge and ability to perform skills in the painting field.
Must have valid motor vehicle operator's license and insurability.
