Position Description
Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Performs the maintenance and repair of buildings including doors, windows, walls, ceilings, floors and electrical circuits. Performs the repair of replacement of beds, drawers, closets & mini blinds when appropriate.
  • Meet established standards in observing and reporting deviations in student conduct, maintenance issues and/or criminal activity to the appropriate department. Assists work with allied crafts & Facility Coordinators when necessary.
  • Performs nightly inspection walk-through of all assigned buildings. Protection of property against theft & vandalism by periodic foot patrol of the buildings, examination of doors and windows for integrity, and observation of people & unusual occurrences.
  • Communicate via a two-way radio.
  • Maintains records of materials and labor expended on each job. Document various maintenance and safety issues by means of incident report and work order for later attention by Housing staff. Effectively manages time to ensure work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain effective communication and relationships with TTUPD, Emergency Maintenance and Residence Life staff.


Required Qualifications
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed journeyperson.

Preferred Qualifications
  • RFCI license to remove and install floor tile that is contaminated with asbestos.
  • Previous knowledge and use of a work order system such as TMA, email, link, and other needed programs on a computer.
  • Posses a demeanor to work with students in a harmonious manner and excels in dealing with customers, previous customer service experience.
