Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; occasional early morning, evening, and weekend hours.

Job Summary:
Setting the stage for a strong learning environment, CSUF is searching for a Supervising Building Service Engineer.

Under the supervision of the Mechanical Operations Manager, the Supervising Building Service Engineer supervises a team to support the development, implementation, operation, and maintenance of technical building systems. Oversees the daily operation of the Controls Shop and schedules and assigns the work of the Facilities Control Specialists and assigned Building Service Engineers. Develops operational procedures, troubleshoots and fixes problems with systems, and works with trades staff to identify and correct problems. Provides training and support for trades staff regarding building systems. Develops and maintains documentation and resources regarding systems. Maintains an updated knowledge base of all building systems. Works closely with other trades to maintain, operate, and repair controls equipment including variable frequency drives, building clock systems, key access systems, fire alarm systems, and building automation systems. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:
Two years of journey-level experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of building automation systems or the equivalent combination of formal course work in controls technology and hands-on experience. Two or more years of experience working as a journey-level controls technician in one or more applicable mechanical or related trades, including at least one year in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Thorough knowledge of building automation systems related to high and low pressure boilers, heating, pneumatic, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and other mechanical equipment. Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, and materials used in the programming, operation, maintenance, and repair of controls equipment. General knowledge of various programming languages, methods, and design of controls strategies. Working knowledge of energy management systems including the ability to understand and use system features. Thorough knowledge of effective supervisory practices and techniques. Working knowledge of job design and work sequencing related to renovation and installation projects. Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal safety codes and regulations pertaining to mechanical and HVAC systems. Ability to install, operate, and repair HVAC controls equipment and systems. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications. Ability to make rough sketches and estimate cost, time, and materials for applicable work. Ability to maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Ability to prepare standard reports, provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants, and analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the position and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position. Ability to maintain currency in applicable industrial safety orders and regulations pertaining to facilities, HVAC, and related equipment. Ability to plan and direct the work of skilled crafts workers and semi-skilled workers and coordinate staffing, material, and equipment needs for multiple jobs and projects. Ability to perform basic design work, read blueprints, and work from plans and specifications. Ability to prepare rough sketches and read and interpret complex operating manuals. Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Ability to ensure accuracy and maintenance of assigned record-keeping systems. Ability to use a personal computer to produce correspondence and manage data. Possession of excellent communication and customer service skills.

Special Working Conditions:
Position will work in a variety of environments, including overhead spaces and confined spaces. Employee will carry a master key.
