Applications are currently being accepted for Student Services Technician in the Assessment & Testing Office, located at San Diego Mesa College. Hours are Monday - Thursday, 8:30am - 6:00pm; Friday, 11:00am - 3:00pm. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs.

Please note that an employee may be transferred to any site at the option of the Chancellor.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the development, monitoring, and evaluation of student success and equity efforts as it relates to assessment and placement efforts.
  • Review high school transcripts and assessment test results and provide an interpretation to students in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Designing and maintaining current information materials regarding assessment and placement process and procedures for the website and for distribution to students.
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of the assessment process for feeder high schools in collaboration with Outreach pre-enrollment efforts.
  • Assist with interpretation of policies, procedures, regulations, guidelines and program requirements as stated in the college catalog.
  • Compile data and prepare reports.

    Knowledge: Academic policies and procedures. Admissions, enrollment, and transfer requirements. Evaluation of transcripts and placement results. Modern office practices, procedures and equipment, including microcomputer and mainframe computer terminal. Technical aspects of field of specialty. Oral and written communications skills. District organization, operations, policies and objectives. Applicable sections of State Education Codes and other laws. Record-keeping techniques. English usage, grammar, spelling punctuation and vocabulary. Skills and Abilities: Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Assist program directors with planning and improvement of procedures. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Compile data and prepare reports. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Initiate actions and apply necessary department resources to accomplish tasks. Interpret and explain rules, regulations, procedures, policies, and catalogs regarding student admission, transcript evaluation, prerequisite requirements, and special regulations. Maintain confidential and complex records and files. Meet schedules and timelines. Operate computers and business-related software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Perform difficult and technical records evaluation duties. Plan and organize work. Train and provide work direction to others. Work confidentially with discretion. Work independently with little direction. Work with minimal supervision. Training and Experience: Bachelors degree preferred. Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: graduation from high school and four years of increasingly responsible experience in an academic setting involving interpretation and application of rules and regulations.

    Pay Information:
    Range 23 ($3,665.57 $5,851.08) per month based on the current AFT Classified Unit Office Technical Salary Schedule

    Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid: medical, dental, and vision plans; sick and vacation leave; and opportunities for professional development. Initial Salary Placement, Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Classified Staff Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is FLSA Non-Exempt and may accrue overtime. A temporary probationary period will be applied to the employee entering this assignment.
