Job Description

The Senior Specialist of Veterinary Nursing provides administrative and management support to the College of Southern Nevada Veterinary Nursing Teaching Clinic and Veterinary Nursing Program in the areas of office management, clinic scheduling, program and practice marketing, clinical nursing and client communications. This individual will be expected to ensure that the day-to-day essential functions associated with the Veterinary Clinic are completed in a timely and accurate manner and any issues that arise are resolved or referred to the correct position for resolution. This position will apply existing policies and procedures to the issues at hand and perform analyses and make recommendations to the Program Director on how to resolve issues. The duties of this position include but are not limited to:
  • Practice Management: Under the supervision of the Program Director, the incumbent will develop, implement, and utilize practice procedures and policies such as: Filing and archiving systems, management of office equipment and supplies, financial controls and accountability, and appropriate scheduling of clinic hours and appointments.
  • Clinic Management: Initiate and maintain client communications, manage confidential records and liaise between the clinic, professional staff, and clients. Provide leadership to the development of program brochures and other marketing materials. Manage the site licensing process. Serve as recording secretary for the Program Advisory Committee.
  • Veterinary Nursing: Establish and maintain an inventory control process to include controlled substances. Explain procedures to clients and students. Implement basic infection control processes. Perform clinical duties of a veterinary nurse as occasion requires.
  • Monitoring Students: Ensure students are appropriately monitored during clinic operation. Provide task specific training where necessary. Provide clinic safety and security for students and clinical equipment. Manage lab operations to ensure effective and organized scheduling of lab and clinic space. Coordinate completion verification of student acquisition of skills.


Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Veterinary Technician/Nursing from an accredited college/university, a professional license as a Veterinary Technician/Nurse, 5 years of related professional experience, working knowledge of veterinary clinical/general maintenance and experience with veterinary surgical techniques/general veterinary procedures OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Master's degree from an accredited college/university.
  • 6 or more years related professional experience
