The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at California State University, Fresno seeks a creative and innovative STEM educator for a tenure-track, academic year faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Fresno State is committed to serving our region's culturally and ethnically diverse student population by providing cutting-edge and collaborative teacher preparation programs and advanced educational opportunities for PreK-12 educators. For this position, teaching our elementary mathematics pedagogy course will be expected. Depending on areas of interest/expertise and departmental needs, opportunities may be available to teach credential and graduate courses in elementary science pedagogy, interdisciplinary curriculum design for PreK-8 classrooms, educational psychology, or educational technology.

In addition to teaching credential and graduate courses, our faculty are expected to be actively engaged in scholarship--research, writing for publication, presenting at conferences, and writing grant proposals. Service benefiting the department, school, university, community, and profession is also an important faculty expectation. Specific assignments are dependent on departmental needs and the background of the individual.

Qualifications:
Required Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent):

The successful candidate must hold a doctorate with an emphasis in mathematics education, science education, or STEM education.

Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered; however, the doctorate must be completed by August 16, 2019.

Required Experience:

Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Experience with and a commitment to designing STEM-related curriculum that is interdisciplinary, project-based, and culturally responsive/relevant to the population of students served.

Pre-collegiate mathematics teaching experience.

Preferred Experience:

A record of research and scholarship in an area related to mathematics/science/STEM education.

Demonstrated K-12 teaching excellence in a STEM subject matter area.

Experience in grant development, writing, and procurement.

Active involvement in professional organizations related to mathematics, science, and/or STEM education.

Experience teaching PreK-8 learners in informal educational settings and/or in providing professional development for PreK-8 teachers.

Facility with instructional technologies.

Experience working in an interdisciplinary team on a project or grant application.

In-depth understanding of curriculum theories and multiple pedagogical approaches.

About the College and Department:
The mission of the Kremen School of Education and Human Development is the recruitment and development of ethically informed leaders for classroom teaching, education administration, counseling, and higher education. This award-winning, NCATE-accredited unit fosters the following candidate dispositions: collaboration, critical thinking, valuing diversity, ethical judgments, reflection, and life-long learning. Our mission is realized through a framework of teaching, scholarship, and service that addresses regional, state, national, and international perspectives. Kremen programs are highly engaged in partnerships with schools in our diverse region, as well as with faculty in other colleges/schools across the campus. Grants such as the Mathematics and Science Teacher Initiative (MSTI) support numerous mathematics and science PreK-12 teacher preparation efforts across the campus.
