Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Clinical Subjects Associate to assist with a Federally-funded project related to opioid use. This position will recruit and follow-up with participants from the Michigan Medicine Emergency Department and local Ann Arbor community agencies.

This position will be split between two projects. One takes place in the Emergency Department at Michigan Medicine, with follow-ups in the community, while the other project takes place at community centers throughout the Ann Arbor area. Both projects focus on opioid safety and reducing opioid related overdoses. The candidate will interact with treatment staff at all recruitment sites and handle problems that may arise as part of the research study including crisis situations, so the ability to communicate effectively is very important.

Responsibilities*
  • Responsible for participant recruitment and screening, obtaining informed consent, and conducting drug screens
  • Performing thorough suicide risk assessments and providing brief supportive counseling, as needed
  • Locating, scheduling and conducting follow-up assessments with participants in the community and over the phone
  • Job responsibilities also include data entry, updating study databases, accurately completing daily paperwork, preparing assessment materials, following all research protocols and procedures
  • Additional study tasks may be assigned as needed

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a similar discipline, with evidence of course work or experience in Research Methods and clinical experience required
  • Excellent organizational skills, professionalism, attention to detail, ability to work independently but also within a team, personable, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines are all a must
  • The candidate must be able to work independently for extended periods while receiving feedback and guidance from study coordinators and faculty investigators.
  • Experience working on a multi-disciplinary team and ability to adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines are also a necessity.
  • Experience using MS Excel, Access, and REDCap are preferred.
  • Previous experience conducting health-related research and/or with substance abuse or high risk populations is preferred, but not required.
  • The job will require flexibility in order to meet project deadlines and goals; therefore, a strong ability to problem solve is highly desired.
  • The candidate for this position must be able to work flexible hours including the potential of nights and weekends, and personal reliable transportation is a must.

M-F, may require evenings and weekends

Ann Arbor, will require travel for follow-up assessments.

Under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
