Part-Time Scribe/Reader (Pool) - Center for Disability Services

Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Center for Disability Services is looking to hire a scribe/reader that will provide accommodations for students with visual and/or physical limitations for their academic classes. They will support students with disabilities by providing reading, scribe and/or note taking services for in-class lectures, discussions and tests. The scribe/reader will support and promote all students' right to communication equity in the classroom.

Assignment to accommodation requests is determined based on student need in registered courses and the scribe/reader's availability to match the course schedule. Shift assignments range from 1 to 6 hours, depending on the course meeting times or testing schedule. Scribe/reader services may also be needed during test taking, which are occasionally scheduled with only 1 day advance notice.

Position works hourly on a flexible schedule determined by assignment needs and availability.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to work a flexible schedule
Punctual and reliable
Excellent command of the English language
Active listener and strong ability to take clear and accurate notes at a reasonable speed
Ability to take clear and accurate dictation
Ability to verbally relay information for students in a classroom setting
Strong attention to detail
Ability to maintain professional boundaries in class and during tests
Ability and commitment to working collaboratively
Commitment to quality service for students with disabilities
Ability to interact with a diverse population of students, especially individuals with varied and multiple disabilities.
Ability to work independently
High School diploma or GED equivalent and some college experience

Preferred Qualifications:
Associates Degree
Previous notetaking, reading or scribe experience
Experience working with individuals with disabilities

Work Hours: Position works hourly on a flexible schedule determined by assignment needs and availability. This position is part time, not to exceed 69 hours per month. Work is contingent on student accommodation need.
