Position Information:
UC Riverside Earth Sciences Department seeks a Museum Scientist to conserve, oversee, and utilize departmental research, reference, and teaching collections; and manage the museum outreach program. The position is 85% time with flexible Monday through Friday hours. Candidates seeking external research or outreach funding that may supplement salary while pursuing departmental goals are particularly encouraged to apply. The department, which has recently rapidly grown in faculty, is within the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, and has strong specimen-based research in fault petrology, geochemistry, and paleontology. Such research complements departmental research foci in Organic and Paleoenvironmental Evolution, and Earthquake Processes (see http://earthscience.ucr.edu/ ). We are looking for individuals with a strong background in specimen-based earth-life history research, familiarity with a broad range of geological materials, and an active interest in Museum Science including digitization and databasing. The new hire will engage with UCR's Center for Integrative Biological Collections, a rapidly evolving college-wide initiative. Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in geology or paleontology or related field.
Ability to identify and classify rocks, minerals and fossils according to established classification systems.
Knowledge and experience in library literature review for identification and documentation of earth science materials.
Experience writing reports in geology or paleontology.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.


Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in geology or paleontology or related field.
A broad knowledge of geology, geography, geophysics, paleontology, and geology of California and the southwestern United States.
Demonstrated supervisory experience.
