Position Information
The Managing Director Entrepreneurial Programs will work with faculty, students and entrepreneurs in the Inland Empire to facilitate access to resources needed to commercialize their ideas. The incumbent will oversee numerous programs funded through various foundations and agencies, develop best practices for mentoring and coaching entrepreneurial teams, recruit experienced senior executives as entrepreneurs in residence, and facilitate access to capital through proof of concept grants, SBIR/STTR grants or private equity capital. The Managing Director will support the growth of the Inland Empire innovation ecosystem by building collaborative partnerships with key members of the region's entrepreneurial network and will be responsible for oversight of day-to-day operations for the various programs. In addition, the Managing Director will develop and implement ongoing sustainability plans for the various program and will be intimately involved in preparing budgetary and regular reports for funding agencies and prospective donors. This position will report directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Technology Partnerships at the University of California Riverside. This is a one-year contract position with the possibility of renewal contingent upon on continued funding.


Minimum Requirements
Demonstrated ability to identify, understand, analyze, and interpret complex written material, business contracts and financial data, and effectively communicate results of analyses.
Broad knowledge of commercialization and licensing and its applications to the industry alliance program. Knowledge of business development concepts with proven success in assisting with identification, cultivation and sourcing.
Deep understanding of faculty and programmatic research interests within the University. Understanding of current industry research and innovations.
Skills to build work relationships, coordinate and integrate with others in division, department, and organization. Ability to interact diplomatically with diverse personalities and to exercise judgment and tact.
Solid communicator; includes verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills.
Demonstrated management and conflict resolution skills to effectively lead and motivate others. Effectively manages multiple important priorities. Proven ability to support decisions with facts.
Proven skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution. Demonstrates good problem-solving and analytical skills. Creatively addresses complex or new problems.
Proven ability to organize programs in an efficient and effective manner. Organizational skills applied to personal work and improving industry alliance program processes.
Highly developed interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility to work with faculty, executive administrators, staff, students, alumni, industry leaders, governmental representatives, consultants, legal counsel, and the general public.
