Learning Resource Center Assistant

The College at Brockport - REOC


The Rochester Educational Opportunity Center (REOC), part of The College at Brockport, State University of New York, and located in downtown Rochester, invites applications for a part-time, Learning Resources Center Assistant. This position supports the activities of the Learning Resource Center and assists the Learning Resource Center Coordinator in the maintenance of the library collection, archives and tutoring program. We particularly welcome applications from those who have experience working with diverse adult populations.


Major Responsibilities


Library Resource Management

    Assists in surveying faculty and students to identify quality resources Assists with ordering materials by creating itemized order form according to directions of Learning Center Coordinator Catalogs new material Provides guidance and direction to interns and assistants to accomplish library tasks Assists with maintenance and updates of REOC archives by ensuring the archives are in order Acts as back-up to in absence of the Learning Resource Center Coordinator



Training and Workshops

    Delivers workshops based on the curriculum and knowledge of materials provided Responds to research help desk inquiries Conducts library orientations Assists with training and workshops for students and potential students (e.g. attendance and collect materials)



Instructional Technology

    Oversees, maintains and utilizes computer labs (ATTAIN, CTE and desktops) including orienting students and potential students on how to use computers Delivers classroom presentations to promote computer labs particularly CTE (Career and Technical Education)/Mac lab Provides training and orientation for specific computer services Refers computer issues to either IT or ATTAIN coordinator



Tutoring Program

    Ensures tutors have access to curriculum and curriculum guides including determining what guides tutors may need, maintaining tutoring files and making copies of needed material Maintains files and data concerning tutored students' including maintaining student intake scores, attendance, inputting and filing information Provides excellent customer service to tutors and tutoring participants


Testing

    Proctors tests in the absence of the Learning Center Coordinator Administers the Official Readiness Assessment once a week to community members and to recommended REOC students Meets with students to review readiness assessment scores, complete paperwork and plan next steps Monitors the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) for partners and instructors



Required Qualifications
Associate's degree by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university; proficient in Microsoft Office; proficient with computers and learning new computer systems; ability to file and organize; demonstrate excellent customer service skills; ability to work independently; and, strong oral and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university; previous library experience working in a library and familiarity with a cataloging system; and, experience in adult basic education.

Department Description
The Learning Resource Center oversees the library, REOC archives, three computer labs and equipment that supports the learning needs of our diverse population of academic and vocational students. In addition, the learning center coordinates tutoring services, trains and supports tutors and offers regular workshops for community members, faculty and students. Testing and testing support services are provided on an as-needed basis.
