Applications are currently being accepted for Instructional Lab Technician / Trades in the Fire Protection Technology department located at Miramar College. Hours are Monday through Friday; 20 hours per week, evening hours are likely. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs.

Please note that an employee may be transferred to any site at the option of the Chancellor.

Major factors to be evaluated for an Instructional Lab Technician / Trades in the Fire Protection Technology department may include: Minimum of (6) six months of work experience in Fire Technology or Fire Service Training: hourly, volunteer, stipend, seasonal, part-time and full-time experience acceptable. Graduation from a CA State Accredited Firefighter 1 Academy or possession of a Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 Certification is highly desirable or completion within (6) six months of hire. An associate degree or certificate in Fire Technology or a closely related field or equivalent coursework. Provided evidence or examples of computer-related experience including Google, Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, and Fire Simulation software. Knowledge and/or experience in the following areas preferred: Overseeing the operation and maintenance of Fire Technology training equipment and supplies in the subject of firefighting; training and furnishing work direction to Fire Technology instructional assistants. Assisting instructors and staff in the use of a variety of equipment, materials and supplies, such as maintenance of fire apparatus, firefighter Personal Protective Clothing (PPE), Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), fire extinguishers, ground ladders, chainsaws, forcible entry equipment, fire hose, nozzles, hand tools, wildland firefighting equipment and other such items required for firefighter training and certification. Preparing and issuing firefighting equipment to students, maintaining records of materials and equipment loaned to students and received returned equipment. Ordering, receiving and cataloging equipment used in firefighting training. Preparing firefighting training equipment for instructor demonstrations and student learning stations as requested and according to approved procedures through State Fire Training and IFSAC certification requirements. Maintaining apparatus and equipment and providing basic services, fueling, etc. for proper operation on a daily basis. Developing and maintaining simulations for a Command Training Center (CTC), troubleshooting and resolving problems related to computer software. Maintaining a Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) equipment and training course for students. Providing opportunities for student review and practice skills outside of designated Fire Technology courses. Assisting in the preparation of a Fire Technology budget and monitoring budget expenditures for supplies and Teaching Assistants. Developing and maintaining filing systems for all student certifications through NWCG, IFSAC, SFT, CSTI, and FSTEP. Providing student outreach and recruitment for a Fire Technology Program, including regular tours, high school programs, local fire department and use of social media.

Range 23 This is a 50% position ($1,832.79 $2,925.54) per month based on the current AFT Classified Unit Office Technical Salary Schedule

Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid: medical, dental, and vision plans; sick and vacation leave; and opportunities for professional development. Initial Salary Placement, Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Classified Staff Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is FLSA Non-Exempt and may accrue overtime. A temporary probationary period will be applied to the employee entering this assignment.
