Human Resources Generalist (Temporary 3-4 Month Role)

The Human Resources (HR) Generalist serves a consultative role for management and employees on human resources-related issues. This position works closely with HR leadership and reports to the Senior Manager, Human Resources, to support the organization's Education Units and carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee relations, policy implementation, employment law compliance, training, and general HR administration.

This need will be covering a leave of absence.

Responsibilities:
  • Manages and resolves tier one employee relations issues. Assists with managing and resolving moderate to complex employee relations issues. Escalates as appropriate. Assists with employee investigations.
  • Consults with management, providing HR guidance when appropriate. Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to management for front line staff (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the legal department as needed/required.
  • Handles tier one employee relations counseling, terminations/outplacement processing, and exit process. Performs related administrative tasks.
  • Prepares and assists in analyzation of HR metrics for Education Units and leadership. Presents solutions or recommendations to HR leadership as appropriate.
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Ensures human resources policies and procedures are communicated and adhered to; periodically assists with training on new or updated policies that affect employees.
  • Collaborates with the HR Education Unit Services team on employee leave and ADA accommodation requests, as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with other functional areas of HR to identify areas of opportunity across the organization; recommends solutions as appropriate.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Essential Skills:
  • Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of human resources.
  • Outstanding presentation skills and the ability to present information to groups of varying sizes and backgrounds.
  • Superior relationship-building, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed team skills, unquestioned integrity, and the experience, confidence and presence to effectively handle interpersonal relationships and sensitive HR issues.
  • Experience with standard office software and human capital management, preferably UKG Pro.
  • Proactive, flexible, and comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment, which demands a high level of energy and commitment.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products.

Experience:
  • Minimum three years' human resources experience required working in an exempt level position requiring significant discretion and consultative skill.
  • Experience managing moderate personnel issues required.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field required; Human resources certification such as SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR strongly desired.
