Graphic Designer and Web Support Specialist, College of Engineering and Computer Science - Requisition # 180000010V

Under the general direction of the Dean and College leadership, the Graphic Designer and Web Support Specialist will lead and direct the development of marketing efforts to strengthen the brand and image of the College of Engineering and Computer Science and support strategic initiatives, overseeing and executing graphic design, web, and social media campaigns. This position serves as a liaison for the college's internal and external media and communications, as well as media inquiries, in concert with Communications & Marketing, Advancement, Alumni Affairs, and the college's Advisory Boards. This position will serve as the College's primary contact for coordinating and implementing University policies and practices impacting communications and marketing. Responsibilities include:

  • Designing, creating, and maintaining web presence for the College of Engineering and Computer Science and all departments falling under it using the OU Campus web content management system (CMS) and Drupal as well as through social media (Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn) using University of Tennessee at Chattanooga branding for marketing to existing and potential sponsors, external advisory boards, alumni, partners, etc. recruiting and helping to retain students, and acknowledging research sponsorship, program initiatives, and events.
  • Producing digital and print material including, but not limited to, annual reports, brochures, posters, flyers, promotional items, digital ads, signage and presentations, etc. using the assets mentioned above and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga branding for marketing as well as information about the college history, current progress, programs, and goals to existing and potential external advisory boards, sponsors, alumni, partners, etc. recruiting and helping to retain students, and acknowledging research sponsorship, program initiatives, and events; supporting donor relationships and philanthropy through effective branded mementos and other items.
  • Researching and sourcing for extracting text and plot data; improving and enhancing legacy images for current use, coordinating the printing and final execution of key documents linked to accreditation, laboratory safety, advisory board, manuals and document submissions for compliance, research competitions, and crucial mandatory state and national agency reports; serving as support for co-workers in the use of various types of software.
  • Responsible for knowledge, implementation and proficiency in key and current software and technology tools available for use in media processing and graphic design.

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree required in Fine Arts, Graphic Design or related field. Must have experience as a graphic designer producing print and digital materials and have the ability to show portfolio of work. Bachelor's degree + 5 years' experience as a graphic designer is preferred. Must have the ability to interact cross functionally with other team members in order to plan, communicate and execute product creation. Must have excellent working knowledge of Adobe Creative suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, Acrobat Professional, and Dreamweaver); strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; ability to take an idea from concept to design/illustration and publication/release and distribution; skillful in creative concepting. Must have the ability to help the deans, faculty, staff and students communicate accurate and effective information to their respective constituencies. Knowledge, skill and ability for pre-press, file configuration, interfacing with print vendors and other external product providers is required. Must possess a solid background and demonstrated experience, knowledge, and understanding of the digital media landscape, including various social media websites; Have the ability and vision to combine art, design and creative skills to develop ideas and produce original and effective visual images for a wide range of products; Knowledge of and experience with website design; Experience and ability in a variety of graphic mediums including photography; Knowledge in programming languages such as Java, PHP, and HTML. Must have the ability to be effective in communication with everyone. Due to the wide range of interactions by this position with scientists, experts in technical areas, researchers, donors, and student and educations at all levels, as well as those key to production (printers, vendors, and others), excellent and effective written and spoken communication are key. Familiarity in an academic setting, engineering and science/technology is preferred.
