Financial Aid Services Specialist

The financial aid services specialist will assist students and team members in a variety of processes to include review of Federal Student Aid (FSA) applications, eligibility, supporting documentation, as well as processing Title IV aid, alternative loans, scholarships, and research and reconciliation of various financial aid disbursements.
Essential Functions:

  • Assists in completion of department activities and delivery for financial aid while maintaining a high level of accuracy and timely completion of tasks.
  • Completes daily work to include, but not limited to, application verification, disbursements, reconciliation, financial aid packaging, and other financial aid processes.
  • Reviews student information with a strong ethical foundation in an atmosphere of confidentiality and in compliance with federal privacy laws.
  • Collaborates with American Public University System (APUS) staff and various teams, at all levels as required, to meet strategic objectives.
  • Creates and maintains professional working relationships with third-party servicers and various partners to successfully and accurately administer financial aid.
  • Stays abreast of regulatory changes within finance and financial aid and ensures compliance to Department of Education regulation guidelines for the handling of various funds.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Standard office environment in Charles Town, WV.
  • Overtime and weekend hours, as needed.

  • Excellent attention to detail with an ability to quickly and accurately research detailed accounts

  • Intermediate skills with MS Office Excel.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
