Position Information
UCR Information Technology Solutions (ITS) is looking for an Executive Director of Systems Engineering to help improve service delivery to campus staff, faculty, and students. ITS is in the midst of a focused organizational change in terms of culture and operational maturity. As a member of the ITS leadership team, the successful candidate will have the ability to be on the ground floor and have a tremendous amount of influence over implementing better disaster recovery, process improvement as well as the development and execution of our cloud strategy. If you have the drive to create something new, and the willingness to be a change agent, this position is for you. Please note: The salary offer will be commensurate with experience within the budgeted range of $140,000 to $150,000.


Minimum Requirements
Ability to understand the process involved to adapt, integrate, and modify existing programs or vendor-supplied products for use within a large and complex technical environment.
Experience in the management of ongoing technology infrastructure acquisition and expansion, to include the identification and integration of suitable emerging technologies.
Extensive or advanced knowledge of subject area sufficient for strategic planning, technology assessment and direction.
Requires the ability to gather, organize, and analyze data in the completion of diverse functional assignments.
Uses and applies advanced Information Technology principles, theories, and concepts to manage and provide solutions to more complex and multi-dimensional problems.
Is able to resolve issues using established parameters and own judgment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present technical topics to large groups with potentially varied levels of technical sophistication.
Thorough knowledge of technical concepts and basic operating principles of data communications, computer hardware, vendor IT products, and software.
Requires an in-depth knowledge of the applications programming development function and a broad knowledge of the IT organization.
Experienced in leading change management activities and managing their impact across multiple units or departments.
Familiarity with Windows and Linux systems administration practices.
Deep understanding of current and emerging systems technologies and best practices and how other enterprises are employing them.
Demonstrated ability to drive organizational change and build systems capabilities that effectively balance the need to continuously exploit capabilities to optimize operational efficiency with the need to deliver innovative and agile infrastructure and operational solutions to enable the business to explore new opportunities.
Deep understanding of industry best practices around business continuity and disaster recovery.
Demonstrated capability of IT project management.
Demonstrated capability to manage systems operations in a cloud environment.
Understanding of automation, infrastructure as code and devops.


Preferred Qualifications
Extensive experience managing technical staff.
