WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Engineer IV Network serves to ensure equivalent availability and delivery of college-wide network and telecommunications infrastructure in support for on campus and online students and faculty and administration. This position is a lead engineer on the Network Team and is responsible for daily operations and support for local and wide area networks, including, testing, maintenance and customization of network systems. Employees in this classification oversee and coordinate activities related to providing college information via on-line and other electronic means. Positions provide technical and operational support for information systems required to provide on-line information.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Support, monitor, test and troubleshoot network and telecommunications hardware, including, but not limited to; wireless LAN controllers, wireless access points, network monitoring services, routers, switches, power systems, IP video surveillance systems, identity services engines, network access control, door access control, virtual servers, virtual collaboration platforms and related campus and data center systems.

Recommend and schedule installations, repairs, and upgrades with facilities and vendors.

Provide design support for construction, remodeling and other campus-based IT related projects.

Support and maintain data center critical power and campus UPS battery infrastructure.

Support and maintain standards for enterprise-wide wireless infrastructure.

Provide Windows, Unix, and Cisco IOS support for associated systems.

Provide client support and maintain documentation for all network and telecommunications related functions.

Support copper and fiber optic wiring standards, classroom design, and presentation systems design.

Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Ability to respond to critical outages 24 x 7.

DESIRED ABILITY, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS

  • Ability to configure RAID storage for virtualization and manage ESX Virtual servers and appliances.

  • Ability to configure, troubleshoot, and maintain Cisco Routers and Switches.

  • Ability to deploy, configure, troubleshoot and maintain Cisco Wireless Infrastructure.

  • Ability to configure, troubleshoot, and maintain system monitoring.

  • Ability to configure, troubleshoot, and maintain critical power infrastructure.

  • Ability to operate in a Windows Server, UNIX, VMWare, and Cisco IOS environment.

  • Ability to create and understand construction blueprints and network diagrams.

  • Ability to administer and maintain virtual collaboration infrastructure such as Webex Cloud and Webex endpoints.

  • Ability to configure and manage Axis & Milestone based IP Surveillance Infrastructure.

    At a minimum the selected candidate must have an Associate's degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of related experience.
