Energy Manager

Position Information:
The Energy Manager is a member of the UCR Facilities Services (FS) team and is responsible for oversight, planning, implementation and monitoring for all energy management programs, and purchased utilities for the campus and Facilities Services operations. Develops a campus-wide strategic energy plan, implements projects and programs to meet the campus and UC system-wide goals for energy management; develops and implements procurement strategies and oversees contract negotiations for purchase utilities; develops metrics for reporting for effectiveness and compliance. Evaluates and examines the existing utility infrastructure of the campus and identifies efficiencies for resource conservation, climate protection and cost savings. Actively identifies and models projects that require an investment and bring great value and savings to the institution, while meeting the overall campus goals for Academic, Research, Service, and Patient Care. Establishes polices and methods for energy management practices. Ensures continuity of communication and is responsible for communicating updates, changes, needs and impacts to internal and external stakeholders, as related to campus energy management programs. Organizes and leads collaboration with external partners and internal departments to ensure organizational communication and cooperation. Provides direct supervision to one (1) Energy Management Analyst. Positively promotes the organization by demonstrating a high value of professionalism and support for organizational values and expectations. Facilities Services is one of the largest departments at UC Riverside employing nearly 400 career employees. Facilities Services provides exceptional service in maintaining an environment conducive of teaching, learning, living, working and research for the entire campus community. The department maintains buildings, facilities and landscape totaling over 6 million square feet across 1,350 acres of campus. Education:
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification from the Association of Energy Engineers.

Degree must be specifically related to mechanical or electrical engineering.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of experience evaluating and/or analyzing utility infrastructure to identify effeciencies.

Experience using web-based work order systems.

Experience performing a similar role within a higher education setting.

Minimum of 8 years of related experience.

Previous supervisor/managerial experience.
Preferred

Experience and/or knowledge of UC systems, policies, procedures and regulations.

Experience in applying architectural or engineering concepts to scope of work.

Minimum Requirements:
Advanced conceptual and planning skills.
Advanced communication, organization, and project management skills.
Advanced ability to assess needs for energy management products to meet those needs.
Advanced ability to work in a collaborative manner to achieve results.
Advanced knowledge of one or more of the following areas: natural gas, biomethane, carbon management, energy efficiency, direct access and/or wholesale electric power.
Advanced ability to establish priorities, goals/objectives and timelines across the organization.
In-depth knowledge of water conservation efforts as applicable to the principles of green building design and operation.
In-depth ability to oversee analysis and policy development for issues and processes impacting the department or organization.
Advanced knowledge of the principles of green building and energy efficient design, operation, and evaluation of institutional facilities; and energy efficiency programs. Ability to manage all related systems and implement corrective action.
Advanced communication, organization, management and project management skills. Advanced ability to convey technical information in a concise manner.


Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced understanding of how programs relate to other business strategies and initiatives.

Advanced knowledge of heating, steam and heat transfer systems, ventilating, air condition (HVAC), power, electrical services and variable frequency drive (VFD) system installation.

Advanced ability to delegate and oversee assignments to ensure successful and timely completion as well as to obtain the cooperation of others within and outside the unit.

In-depth knowledge of industry standards of procedure and utility systems characteristics when inspecting or surveying building infrastructure for the basis of project design development.

Working knowledge of California Building Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical codes, Fire Protection codes, ADA standards and other applicable codes and standards required to achieve project objectives.

Advanced leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) principles.
