About the Opportunity:
The Northeastern Facilities Management Division is seeking an energetic and motivated Electrical Supervisor to join our Operations team. The Electrical Supervisor's primary responsibility is supervising the effective, efficient and timely maintenance and upgrades of all Electrical systems and components 8 million square feet of academic, residential and administrative facilities.

Responsibilities:
Position's primary responsibility is supervising the effective, efficient and timely maintenance and upgrades of all Electrical systems and components 8 million square feet of academic, residential and administrative facilities. Develop, coordinate and administer regular inspection of Electrical systems including an effective planned preventative maintenance program for normal, emergency & the 15 KV electrical systems and equipment. Establish objectives and priorities to ensure continuous operations of facilities. Determine reallocation of resources, as necessary, to reach objectives. Make recommendations for upgrades and replacements. Act as liaison with NEU Campus Planning, Facilities Design & Construction project managers, contractors and members of the University community on all matters affecting electrical issues. Ensure compliance with NFPA-70 Electrical codes and OSHA regulations, etc. Verify that the work performed by contractors and vendors meet NU and Electrical code requirements. Monitor and control expenditures and abide by university procurement rules and regulations. Establish guidelines to monitor and maintain records of work requests. Monitor flow and progress of work requests to assure a customer focus and their satisfaction. Coordinate all records and reporting systems to interface with appropriate electronic data systems. Administer collection of necessary technical data to support budget allocations for deferred maintenance items and facility equipment upgrades. Develop and make recommendations for policy and procedural changes affecting productivity and welfare of the Electrical shop. Create and administer training and development programs for skilled workforce. Supervise employees in accordance with University policies, including recruitment, discipline, performance evaluations, and terminations. Document specific overtime allocations and maintain fair and equitable overtime distribution among staff. Schedule and oversee regular Shop Meetings to discuss updated work processes, equipment, staff concerns, safety and campus updates.

Qualifications:
Must have a current Massachusetts Journeyman's and Master Electrician's Licenses or be able to obtain within nine (9) months of hire date. Must have a minimum of five years of experience as supervisor of electricians, the demonstrated ability to provide leadership and direction for a staff of 10 - 12 licensed Electricians qualified electricians and contracted services as appropriate. Must have the capability to repair all electrical systems on campus as required. The selected electrical supervisor shall have current / active Electricians licenses in the state of Massachusetts

Must possess extensive knowledge of Electrical-related needs, requirements and processes. Must be able to manage and prioritize multiple work orders and projects simultaneously.
Must have a valid Driver's License valid in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The incumbent shall be responsible to maintain the annual electrical maintenance permit for the NU Boston campus.
  • Proficient computer skills including:
  • Microsoft Office and similar software tools offered and used at NEU with a working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications;
  • Ability to adapt, improvise and create reports relating to administration of Electrical shop operations, scheduling, overtime and related activities;
  • Working knowledge and experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) such as Archibus or equivalent.
  • Utility locating and damage prevention experience.
  • Experience in emergency response, hazardous materials handling, applicable OSHA/EPA regulations. Must be NFPA 70E, IEEE 1584, OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S Certified
  • Either a high school diploma, or the math and language skill set equivalent to that of a high school graduate, is required.
  • Use of trade tools and testing and measuring devices to troubleshoot a wide range of mechanical and controls problems.
  • Ability to read blueprints, sketches, O&M Manuals, and diagrams; interpret oral instructions to install and troubleshoot required work.
  • Must possess trade-related math skills appropriate for this level of work and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively, either independently or in a team environment in both routine and emergency situations.
  • Possess a working knowledge of personal computers and basic applications. Demonstrated proficiency in use of Microsoft Office applications.

    Special Working Conditions
  • Must be able to work off-hours as needed.
  • May be required to work holidays and weekend with compensatory time off. Essential Personnel may be required to work during peak work load time and occasional weekend support for customer driven projects.
  • Must be able to work alone and climb multiple sets of stairs, work off ladders, scaffolding, roofs, staging, lifts, etc. and in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency calls beyond the normal workday
  • Use of personal protective equipment.
  • Outside work during all types of weather.
  • Operation of vehicles and industrial equipment.
  • Assist other trades as directed.
  • Newly-hired staff receive regularly-scheduled certification safety training as required by EPA and OSHA/MOSH in the use of MSDS, respirators, scaffolding, ladders, fall protection gear, lockout/tag out, forklifts, aerial platforms, and confined space.
  • May undergo periodic occupational physical.
