Director, Network/Systems Engineering

Responsibilities:

Manage the delivery of systems, network, and voice engineering services to agreed service levels.
  • Build and develop a team of high-performing engineers and provide exceptional leadership.
  • Lead the management and long-term planning for our enterprise storage and compute, backup and DR solutions, messaging systems, fiber channel fabric, vmware infrastructure, federation, authentication services, M365, Azure and other key systems and applications.
  • Oversee the support and delivery of all network-related services including QoS, Internet, MPLS, SD-WAN, VOIP, Call Center, VPN, network security, and intra-datacenter connectivity.
  • Engage in the development of the infrastructure and cloud roadmap and ensure its overall alignment with the IT Service Management strategy.
  • Lead and drive collaboration between engineering and all other teams in the IT organization.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Work with vendor partners on root cause analysis and SLA adherence.
  • Coach, mentor and train members of the engineering team to ensure they understand their job responsibilities and APEI or its affiliates' IT policies.
  • Build training plans for the engineering team members to encourage growth and advance skillsets.
  • Ensure critical systems are protected and available in accordance with our SLAs.
  • Ensure the scalability of all infrastructure and applications to support current and future growth.
  • Availability during off hours, weekends and holidays to own, manage and resolve high severity incidents as well as major changes or upgrades.
  • Assist with the annual budget as it relates to systems engineering initiatives.

Job Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of IT network and systems engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related work experience.
  • 3+ years of Azure experience designing and managing IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions.
  • Extensive experience with the M365 and the Microsoft suite of enterprise applications.
  • Significant familiarity with routers, firewalls and switches.
  • Skilled in the design and configuration of VMware vSphere, vCenter and SRM.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong service ethic.
  • Extensive experience maintaining network-attached and fiber channel storage and fabrics.
  • 2+ years' experience developing and leveraging PowerShell scripts to automate tasks
  • Extensive familiarity with data center planning and management as well as disaster recovery strategy and testing.
  • Exceptional planning and critical thinking skills.
  • Solid understanding of current and emerging data center and cloud technologies.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to build, coach and mentor a team of highly technical individuals.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong organizational, management, and decision-making skills.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office suite and other business related software systems
