Synopsis of Role:
The Director of Finance is responsible for establishing finance policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems, in the areas of accounts payable, purchasing and general accounting.
Essential Functions:
- Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Protects assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls.
- Provides status updates by collecting, interpreting and reporting key financial data.
- Ensures compliance with federal and state requirements by researching existing and new legislation, working with internal teams, and advises management of actions and risks.
- Hires, trains, develops, and appraises staff effectively.
- Develops, successfully implements, and trains new workflow and system enhancements to support strategic growth.
- Keeps up-to-date on information and technology affecting functional areas to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
- Interacts with staff and various teams, at all levels as required, to meet strategic objectives.
- Manages and maintains updates to all standard operating procedures and Sarbanes Oxley narratives, as well as understand and meets Department of Education regulations as it relates to financial aid refunds.
- Works with internal and external auditors as needed.
- Ensures all work meets both financial and SOX compliance.
- Completes special projects as assigned.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Standard office environment in Charles Town, WV.

Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required. Master's degree preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification required.
- Five or more years of experience in managing an accounting function.
- Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with Windows based applications (specifically Excel).
- Experience with Paramount Workplace and Great Plains preferred.
