Job Description

The Director of Environmental Health and Safety is responsible for institutional compliance with federal, state and local regulations pertaining to environmental, work place safety, and health related areas. The creation of a safety minded college community is a primary function, as well as the development of EH&S policies and procedures to ensure the safety of the college constituents and personnel. The position is responsible for development of programs for institutional and environmental workspace safety and health programs. The position will also develop plans, policies and procedures for environmental, work place safety, and health related areas. The Director will be responsible for providing the correct course of action in relation to any response from the institution regarding environmental or health safety.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college and/or university in environmental health, physical/biological sciences, safety or a related field and 5 years of related professional experience with 3 years being at a supervisor or above level.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college and/or university in a related field.
  • Professional certification from a safety or health-related organization.
  • Knowledge of work place safety, health, and environmental laws and regulations, e.g., OSHA, DOL, EPA, DOT, DHS.
  • Knowledge of environmental health and safety resources, e.g., National Safety Council, NIOSH, NFPA, institutional DEHS organizations, etc.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safe practices and Nevada OSHA standards.
  • Possess skills in developing and delivering training programs to diverse constituents.
  • Possess skills in communicating effectively with and providing institutional liaison to regulatory agencies/inspectors.
  • Ability to function effectively under crisis conditions, compliance deadlines, etc.
  • Ability to work directly with hazardous materials, e.g., hazardous waste.
  • Ability to create technical reports, correspondence.
  • Ability to supervise employees, contractors, safety related projects effectively and leadership skills.


Starting Salary Range

Administrative Faculty Grade D

$83,340 - $97,981
