DOS Office Student Assistant

Job Summary
The Dean of Students Office (DOSO) Assistant performs routine office duties. In addition, this position also assists the Dean of Students office with a variety of programs and initiatives.

Job Description

Essential Job Duties:
  • Performs routine office duties as assigned to support DOSO staff daily.
  • Answers incoming calls, screens and routes the calls to the proper resource. Responds to inquiries and takes messages.
  • Greets and instructs students, faculty, staff and visitors and directs them to the appropriate resource.
  • Ensures professional, hospitable interactions with all visitors and follows office protocols and procedures.
  • Assists visitors with the sign- in process.
  • Logs and distributes mail.
  • Assists the Dean of Students office with a variety of programs and initiatives.


Other Duties:
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Additional Job Description

Required Qualification:
  • Must be an enrolled student at Florida Gulf Coast University at the time of hire and throughout the appointment.
  • Have a minimum GPA 2.5 and in good conduct standing with the University.
  • Proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Office (word, excel, and outlook) software.
  • Excellent customer service, telephone skills, general office skills, and ability to use a variety of office equipment.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of general office procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
