Responsibilities:
The Communications Manager provides support for all communications from the HR division in alignment with the university's vision for Northeastern 2025. In partnership with the HR leadership team, this person will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing and continuously improving a comprehensive and integrated communications and engagement program which supports the goal of a talent focused organization, attracting and retaining high quality faculty and staff.

This is a very hands-on role requiring experience both in developing the actual communications and keeping the media presence current and informative. This role is also instrumental in coordinating internal recognition events. The selected candidate will regularly engage with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to execute on the engagement strategy. S/he will team up with key university partners to ensure that the internal communications plans are aligned with university policies and brand guidelines as necessary. S/he will use multiple platforms, including print, digital, social and the web to define and deliver compelling content. The ideal candidate will be both results-oriented and an innovative partner committed to supporting an organization moving forward rapidly in a changing environment.

Qualifications:
  • 5-8 years professional experience in communications, agency or corporate communications, or public relations required. Bachelor's degree required in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism or closely related field.

  • Highest-level writing skills, with the demonstrated ability to write on a wide variety of topics and to adapt style for a range of audiences, using correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and formatting. Strong proofreading and editing experience. Demonstrated HR-related communications experience in areas such new program or services launch, new systems implementation, strongly preferred.

  • Tech-positive approach, always on the lookout for new, better techniques/ platforms for digital outreach. Hands-on experience with website design and updates; a variety of communications tools and strategies.

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work with distributed stakeholders to drive a single communications and engagement strategy. Strong interpersonal and verbal/ presentation skills. Proven experience as a team player, demonstrating both leadership and participant skills; ability to work with a wide variety of stakeholders. Event management or planning experience a plus.

  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deadlines while ensuring high quality products and customer focused services, partnering with key staff across the university. Demonstrated success in using analytical, judgement and problem-solving skills to determine needs and arrive at consistently sound conclusions. Must be able to quickly adapt to changing priorities.
