Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Associate Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (AVP-DEI) position is an opportunity for an experienced individual to join an institution that is a leader in equity and inclusion efforts via the 5 Dimensions of Equity. The AVP-DEI will be a thoughtful partner, an innovator, a listener, a collaborator, and an implementer who will provide strategic leadership in supporting a college culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The AVP-DEI is responsible for building a diversity and inclusion plan in line with the 5 Dimensions of Equity and working with faculty, staff, and students to build training programs for internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will also build a new campus diversity and equity committee that will work alongside the strategic plan and assess our progress towards those goals.

We are looking for equity-minded applicants who demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds present in our community. The ideal candidate will have a documented history of successfully developing and advancing diversity and inclusion programs in a complex organization coupled with in-depth knowledge of pedagogy, theory, and practice. Additional qualifications include experience advancing diversity, equity and inclusion through successful strategies and initiatives and the use of data and research to inform strategic analysis, assessment and measurement of effective diversity and inclusion programs, in addition to programs that will increase recruitment and retention of underrepresented populations and students of color.

Everett Community College seeks a candidate with direct experience in closing achievement gaps in partnership with students, faculty, and staff and with successful experience recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce.

Typical Position Duties:
  • Create, manage and support Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) learning and development programs for campus leadership, managers and supervisors, and staff.
  • Recommend policy and operational change; align objectives, strategic plans and institutional reform efforts with the mission of the College and embed equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging goals.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Student Services (VPSS) and the VP of Instruction (VPI) on strategies to ensure college practices and policies are equitable for all students.
  • Manage the Diversity and Equity Center (D&E) to ensure recruitment and retention priorities are in sync with the college's strategic plan and annual Board of Trustees priorities.
  • Collaborate with other college entities to expand, develop, and coordinate outreach and awareness programs with community organizations to foster student achievement, retention, enrollment, and success.
  • Represent the college at local, state, regional, and national functions as appropriate.
  • Serve as the resource liaison for the Community Diversity Advisory Committee (CDAC) in partnership with the Office of the President.
  • In partnership with HR develop, implement, monitor and track recruitment and hiring strategies and practices to attract and retain a diverse employee workforce, including training for all campus screening committees. Create a community for diverse faculty and staff that promotes a culture of belonging and encourages retention at the college.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Administrative Services to support the College bias incident protocols in coordination with different institutional processes that address hate crimes and incidents, conduct, behavioral concerns, employee relations, and Title IX developments.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Masters degree or doctorate degree in a related field.
    Successful progressively responsible experience leading diversity advocacy initiatives, preferably in higher education.
    Minimum three to five years of experience in management and supervision, preferably in higher education.
    Demonstrated ability to create clear, precise, and effective verbal and written communication for multiple audiences.
    Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities with managing budgets, grants, and personnel.
    Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities in promoting and advancing:
    - student success.
    -an atmosphere of inclusiveness, belonging, and collegiality.
    - a pervasive workplace culture of equity, respect, advocacy and engagement.
    - addressing student aspiration, access, engagement, economic and achievement gaps.
    - serving students across a diverse spectrum of backgrounds.
    - building relationships, networking and working effectively with ethnically, culturally and socio economically diverse populations, community organizations, and campus communities.
    - building coalitions and consensus among diverse groups to achieve goals.
    Motivating and engaging team members.
    Proven skill in developing effective, engaging training programs for employees, students, and college patrons.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Masters or higher in the field of Equity

    Work Hours: Monday Friday, 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Summer quarter schedule is typically Monday Thursday, 7:30 a.m. 6:00 p.m. Some evenings and weekend meetings are required.
