Position Description

Major/Essential Functions
The Department of Biological Sciences at Texas Tech University is recruiting a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor in the field of Virology to begin in the Fall of 2021. The department will fully consider all candidates studying one or more aspects of virology including pathogenesis, transmission, virus-host interactions, cellular and molecular virology, and viral evolution. The chosen applicant will complement and contribute to the Universitys emerging One Health Initiative while enhancing current programmatic strengths in the department. The successful candidate is also expected to supervise an independent and energetic research program that will attract extramural funding, provide research training for graduate and undergraduate students, teach subject area courses (e.g. MBIO 4310) at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and engage in service to the department, college, and university. A PhD and postdoctoral experience in Biology or a related field is required.

Required Qualifications
Academic degree as defined by the academic unit and as appropriate for the position held. Demonstrated record of effectiveness as a teacher, a record of peer reviewed publication and/or peer-reviewed creative activity which has contributed to the discipline or field of study, to the candidates intellectual and artistic development, and to the quality of the academic enterprise; a record of professional service appropriate to the discipline; promise of growth in teaching and research or artistic and creative activity.

Preferred Qualifications
A PhD and postdoctoral experience in Biology or a related field is required.
