Position Description
Performs work to assist in the organization and implementation of projects and programs. Responsibilities include activities which require knowledge of departmental procedures. Employee performance is based upon a review of completed work and overall results obtained.
Major/Essential Functions
- Demonstrate the mental, emotional, and physical ability to work with pregnant mothers and infants birth- 3 years and families from various ethnic and socio-economic groups. Knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with children with disabilities
- Provide for the safety and supervision of chilren according to DHHS (Texas Department of Health and Human Services).
- Familiarity with and willingness to abide by the Texas Family Code 261.101 as it pertains to the abuse and neglect of young children
- Learn how to create developmentally appropriate practices (DAP) for children and implement positive guidance strategies.
- Assist Teachers with weekly lesson plans including information based on observations of children (interests and milestones) and IFSPs.
- Understand the importance of collaboration with outside agencies such as ECI (Early Childhood Intervention) and CPS (Children's Protective Services) to implement plans for children and families.
- Comprehend how to observe and record behavior of children to determine needs and interests as a basis of planning with fidelity. Record formal assessments based on school readiness goals.
- Assist Teachers with maintenance of child files including weekly electronic data entries in ChildPlus and COR.
- Maintain daily informal interactions with families as well as assist Lead Teacher with conducting formal interactions as needed. Assist with conducting a minimum of two parent conferences and two home visits per year per Head Start Standards.
- Build relationships with families in order to assist with family assessments and goal setting for children and families.
- Maintain professional ethics and positive working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, students, and families.
- Participate in professional development by attending conferences and professional meetings and by reading professional literature.
- Help plan, attend, and participate in regular team planning meetings, center staff meetings, and special events.
- Serve as a role model for college lab students each semester.
- Provide leadership and mentor Classroom Assistant in all listed job responsibilities
Required Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent. No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in group care with infants and toddlers.

This is a one year paid internship. Employment is not guaranteed beyond one year.
