Responsibilities*
Provide instruction in a wide variety of exercise and physical fitness techniques, in an individual or group setting. Such instruction may include, but is not limited to, strength training, weight training, flexibility and stretching techniques, use of basic exercise equipment. Instruction skills may also include specialized programs related to strength and/or weight training, or others if qualified. Provide broad and general suggestions and tips for lifestyle change via increase in frequency and duration of exercise sessions. Recommend general strategies for weight loss, strength and flexibility training, conditioning, and stretching as appropriate within a group setting. Maintain current knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the importance of protecting participants' personal health information (PHI).

Desired Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in nutrition, exercise physiology, public health, health education, behavioral health or other health related field OR Bachelor's degree in nursing with a current State of Michigan Licensure. At least one year of experience in leading fitness and/or exercise classes within the last three calendar years. Certification in one or more of the following is required: ACE (American Council on Exercise), ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine). Certification in Group Fitness or other specialized fitness classes is required. Current certification for CPR, First Aid, and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) - PLEASE INDICATE CERTIFICATION DATES IN YOUR COVER LETTER AND/OR RESUME. Thorough understanding of basic behavioral psychology and/or cognitive psychology principles and how such principles may be used to facilitate lifestyle change to reduce health-related risk factors. Ability to work with diverse employee populations, and to tailor educational and coaching messages to the capabilities of each participant. Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams to support health improvement goals via programs and individual coaching and counseling. Ability to work in various communication channels (in-person, telephone, email, virtual meeting) to meet needs of diverse populations.

Work Schedule
Event hours range from 1 hour to 8 hours in length. Events are usually held Monday - Friday and may be held on Saturdays. Events may be held during evening or night shift hours. Event time includes preparation, set up, and tear down of educational areas.

Work Locations
Events can be located within Ann Arbor or Southeast Michigan.
