Instructor, Industrial Electrical Technology (Fontana)

Position Description

This is a full-time, tenure-track Industrial Electrical Technology (IET) instructor position in the School of Business & Applied Technology. Under the direction of the Dean, the assignment for the full-service week will be to teach any of the electricity courses offered by the department, as well as participate in any other professional responsibilities as identified under 18.2.3 of the faculty agreement. Although this position may be at our InTech Center in Fontana, transfers to the Chino, Fontana or Rancho campuses may be possible per contract and need.

Responsibilities

The assignment includes (but is not limited to) the following:
  • Instruct in an industrial electricity lecture/lab program that provides a broad working base from which to handle the many facets of industrial electricity; and providing a safe and positive classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Provide instruction as it relates to the electrical, electronic, process control, pneumatic & hydraulics fields; however, knowledge of robotic, HVAC, Maintenance and Mechanical fields is beneficial.
  • Provide instruction as it relates to light and heavy industry, construction, and utility companies which provide electrical power;
  • Provide instruction which includes PLC programming and troubleshooting, instrumentation, conduit bending, wire pulling, job layout, knowledge of the National Electric Code, AC and DC electrical motor control;
  • Maintain a program which will meet the needs of those entering the trade for the first time and allow those already in the trade to improve their understanding of the craft;
  • Participate in department and school meetings;
  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
  • Perform professional tasks related to the areas of the assignment, particularly in culturally responsive curriculum design and evaluation, program review, and other activities that insure the forward direction of the program; these include Intech Center tasks and activities.
  • Perform other assigned duties necessary for the benefit of our diverse student population, the college, the community, and the profession.
  • Teaching duties may include mornings, late afternoons, evenings, and off-campus sites.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Any Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience; OR
  • Any Associate's degree and six years of professional experience; OR
  • Possession of a valid Lifetime California Community College credential authorizing service as an instructor in Electricity; OR
  • The equivalent (District equivalency form must be submitted at the time of application); AND
  • Clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
    Preference will be given to those candidates who establish the highest level of professional competency as evidenced by any or all of the following:
  • Electrical knowledge;
  • At least four (4) years of industrial electrical field experience for relating industrial practices to students;
  • Expertise with the student populations included in the Chaffey College Equity Plan.
  • Recent experience teaching courses in non-traditional formats such as online, hybrid, fast-track, accelerated, etc.
  • A working knowledge of industrial electronics related to telecommunications;
  • Field experience which includes industrial electrical/electronics, PLCs, computers, process control, pneumatic & hydraulic fields;
  • A working knowledge of robotic, HVAC, maintenance and mechanical fields.
  • Clear and easily understandable written and verbal communication skills that can meet the diversified educational levels of the students.

    Additional Information

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
    Based upon the minimum and/or desirable qualifications stated in this position announcement, the initial salary placement range is $65,700 (minimum qualifications) to $93,700 (doctorate) (Fall 2019 salary schedule). Placement is based on the regular full-time faculty salary schedule and is dependent upon verification of relevant experience and coursework from a regional or nationally accredited institution of higher learning.

    The Selection Process
