Position Information
UCR's Office of Research Integrity (ORI) promotes the highest standards of research excellence and ensures compliance with federal and state regulations. The Human Subjects Research Manager serves as a campus expert in all matters related to human subjects research. The incumbent provides leadership and direction for two related Institutional Review Board Committees, which function as the review bodies responsible for approval and oversight of research involving human subjects. The incumbent will also oversee the Conflict of Interest committee and related functions. The Human Subjects Research Manager will serve as a resource to faculty, students, and staff ensuring that federal and state laws, as well as UC policy, are applied correctly. In an effort to ensure the program is meeting all regulatory obligations and operating in an efficient manner, responsibilities will include providing relevant guidance and training to subordinate staff, participating in policy and procedure development, and consulting or collaborating with regulatory agencies, systemwide peers, and internal stakeholders. The Human Subject Research Manager will address and resolve complex issues through thorough analysis of all variables in a manner that ensures compliance, promotes campus objectives, and supports individual research programs. In this role, the incumbent will interact with a variety of campus and systemwide offices to facilitate the management, administration, and conduct of research. The Human Subject Research Manager will provide leadership and support to the ORI, serving as a delegate for the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Research Integrity in their absence. Minimum Requirements
Demonstrated self-discipline and independent judgment completing highly complex, broadly defined assignments.
Advanced knowledge and ability to apply all relevant Federal, state, and university regulations policies, and federal guidance documents.
Strong proficiency in public speaking, and writing.
Advanced knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research design; scientific research concepts and terminology.
Conflict of Interest: Understanding of stock options, consulting agreements and other corporate documents related to research and ability to analyze potential conflicts of interest.
Ability to work in high-volume, high-pressure and fast-paced environment and successfully manage and prioritize a large task list with deadlines, frequent interruptions and competing deadlines.
Understand socio-behavioral and clinical-biomedical research paradigms and apply regulations appropriately.
Detailed knowledge of substantial body of regulatory information regarding the protection of rights and welfare of human research participants (DHHS, OHRP, FDA, HIPPA).
Ability to work independently with minimal instruction and as an effective team player.
Ability to interact verbally and in writing with faculty with professionalism and decorum.
Ability to identify and resolve complex issues, potentially involving numerous stakeholders.
Ability to lead and mentor others.
Ability to identify the need for expansion/improvement in policy, process and procedure, and to analyze, develop and promote the necessary change.


Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of UCOP-specific policy and procedures involving the use of human subjects, stem cells, and conflict of interest issues.

Advanced understanding of the University's research mission.
