EQUIPMENT SYSTEMS SPECIALIST-CAREER (Equipment Systems Specialist-Career)

Primary Duties:
Performs duties under general supervision, and as a member of a team that provides voice and data network support to the campus community. Responsible for varying levels of field service work to include installation, repair, and troubleshooting of the voice and data physical infrastructure. The incumbent would act as a backup to a technician who has lead responsibilities that include continuously monitoring, troubleshooting, maintaining, and upgrading the campus communications systems. Also responsible for varying levels of maintenance and repair of campus communications systems including campus PBX, standard analog telephones, and local and wide area networks.

Required Education:

The prerequisite foundation of knowledge and skills in technical systems and equipment would normally be obtained through an associate of arts degree in electronics, telecommunications, or industrial technology or equivalent education, training, and/or directly related experience.

Special Requirements:
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.   • Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Drivers License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Drivers Training course.
  • The selected candidate must pass a post-offer pre-employment physical examination and vision tests including distance vision, color blindness, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. This position alternates between remaining in a stationary position operating a personal computer for long periods of time and frequently moving about inside the office; requires the need to regularly position self to lift, move, install and maintain computer and network equipment, e.g. crouching and crawling under workstations, and ascending and descending ladders; work may be performed in confined spaces and above ceilings. Requires the need to travel across campus to other office buildings. Good balance, agility, ability to distinguish color, and occasional lifting up to 35 lbs. is also required.
