Job Description Summary
The Talent Search program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue to and complete their postsecondary education. The program publicizes the availability of financial aid and assist participant with the postsecondary application process. Talent Search also encourages persons who have not completed education programs at the secondary or postsecondary level to enter or reenter and complete postsecondary education. The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youths from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee Talent Search counseling services and initiatives.
  • Lead in documenting key interactions and establishing and maintaining appropriate records and data for the SDP and the City of Philadelphia and author reporting for both agencies.
  • Manage sensitive student information and provide notification of student concerns to VPSE when appropriate.
  • Create and implement systems to monitor, evaluate, and improve student success and experience, facilitate current student enrollment data (i.e., enrollment projections, tuition projections, etc.) to support necessary functions of internal and external stakeholders,and analyze information; create, and share reports with departments for experience and program assessment, etc.
  • Supervise full time, graduate assistant, and peer counseling staff, providing administrative oversight for assuring the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct for the Talent Search professional/peer counseling staffs.
  • Develop and maintain strong, collaborative working relationship across the Penn campus; with School District of Philadelphia counselors,faculty,and staff,and with City of Philadelphia resources and agencies to facilitate efforts to support student well-being and success.
  • Create and implement systems to monitor, evaluate, and improve student success and experience, facilitate current student enrollment data (i.e., enrollment projections, tuition projections, etc.) to support necessary functions of internal and external stakeholders,and analyze information; create, and share reports with departments for experience and program assessment.
  • Develop and assess new and existing outreach programs that promote and provide practical effective education and skills for students through seminars,workshops,groups,and other engagement events.
  • Oversee the Talent Search Peer Mentoring Program.
  • Lead special projects designed to support students' progress towards their high school degree completion and their college applications.
  • Provide ongoing individual personal, academic, career, and financial counseling and support to assigned students, increasing counseling, and monitoring as necessary to students designated as at - risk or on probation.
  • Ensure ongoing proactive outreach to assigned students to inform and support, through their Talent Search experience.
  • Collect and maintain quantitative and qualitative data to assess students' evidenced needs and progress towards meeting Talent Search program mandates.
  • Other Duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Applicants must have completed an earned master's or Ph.D. degree in any discipline at the time of application in Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, Social Work, or other related field.
  • Three to five years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong information management skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving and preparing underserved, diverse participants for academic success and post-secondary enrollment.
  • Experience with counseling/career instructional design and virtual learning environments.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, presentation, and technology skills.
  • working knowledge of any data processing language (STATA, R, or Python)
  • Experience with data tracking and data visualization.
  • Experience organizing, maintaining, and updating data from multiple sources into a single database.
  • Strong digital, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience developing surveys/forms (Qualtrics, SPSS Google Forms, and/or another platform.)
  • Personal/professional experience working in TRIO K-12 and/or University setting with low income, first generation students a plus.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
