Position Information
Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, the Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students is a strategic partner for the Student Affairs organization with a focus on enhancing the student experience and increasing student success. The AVC and Dean of Students will work with one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation, and thereby must possess a passion for, and knowledge of, cultural inclusion, and social justice. The AVC and Dean of Students will provide an executive presence in the leadership of the division across functions in the absence of, and as assigned by, the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. The AVC and Dean of Students is responsible and accountable for the management, design, and organization of 13 departments, and 1 specialized unit.


Minimum Requirements
Strong leadership and management skills.
Ability to build consensus and credibility with all constituents.
Knowledge of national trends in student life and development.
Ability to develop and lead innovative student life and development programs.
Experience in leading successful change efforts, including continuous improvement initiatives.
Knowledge of the faculty governance process.
Ability to direct complex financial, human, and management information system resources.
Good listener, open-minded, team-oriented leader. Be an individual of integrity and high ethical standards. Excellent communication (verbal and written).
Show evidence of student conduct experience with a strong commitment to social justice.
Demonstrate excellent listening and problem-solving skills.
Have evidence of involvement in collaborative projects between student affairs and academic affairs.
Serving as a resource to University faculty and staff dealing with students outside the classroom.
Fostering an inclusive University community and promote equity for all students. Posses the ability to articulate the philosophy of Student Affairs and its contribution to student development.
Developing strategies for promoting student engagement and learning in collaboration with Academic Affairs.
Maintaining strict confidences related to sensitive information and communications.
Ability to support the goals, mission, vision, and strategic plans of the University and the Student Affairs organization.
Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to diversity, inclusion, social justice, and equity, with the ability to develop and maintain inclusive environments; possess evidence of multicultural competency and commitment to diversity, specifically of having advanced diversity through hiring, mentoring, promoting, and retaining professionals from diverse backgrounds.
Visionary leader who has the uncanny ability to inspire and encourage staff challenge the status quo, and create buy-in for the departmental and university goals.
Strong interest in making a difference in the lives of all students on the University campus through engagement, outreach, and support. Awareness and experience with current issues facing college students with special interest around Fraternity and Sorority Life, Title IX, Student Conduct, and Basic Needs.
Committment to support staff development and a strong team environment. Ability to lead change and manage conflict in dynamic and high pressure situations.
